PHYS 014 HOMEWORK

How to do the homework:

It is very important that you understand the homework problems. Discussing with other students is encouraged as long as you really comprehend what you are doing. Copies from others or from the manual will not be accepted.

It is very important that you SHOW YOUR WORK. Explain clearly and briefly the steps you follow and why. The homework will be graded based on the work you show on the page. If only the answer is given you will have no points. The clarity of the presentation accuracy of your answer and also on the completeness of all the problems will be evaluated.

How the homework has to be presented:

Explain the work, underline the answer. Dont forget the units.

Use this model as a guide:

Hw 1

A: Ch.2: 13,17,                                                                                            Name: Your Name

13- The position of a particle moving along the x axis is given in centimeters by x = 5 + 2 t 3, where t is in seconds. Consider the time interval t = 2.00 s to t = 3.00 s.

 a) Calculate the average velocity.

b)

Solution

a)

The average v is delta x/ delta t

Delta x =x(3s) x (2s) and delta t = 3s-2s = 1s

x(3) = 5+2 . 27 = 59

x(2) = 5+ 2 . 8 = 21

Then, delta x = 59-21 = 38m

Then, av. v = 38/1 = 38 m/s
